BRING A PEN OR A PENCIL!!
Your first challenge is to bring a pen or pencil. Teams that forget to could face delays on challenges trying to track down our spare supply of pens. So, pack the pen first!


WHAT TO BRING

• Comfortable athletic clothing - like shorts, running   shoes and cap
• Sunblock
• Water bottle (we have a refill station at the finish line)
• Togs + towel
• Pen
• Picnic for team and family supporters for after XRACE
• Your own medication if required

WHAT TO WEAR

You will be provided with an XRACE t-shirt which must be worn during the competition. You must also wear the provided timing chip (also called a transponder, refer below).

XRACE challenges may involve water, mud and physical exertion, so we recommend you dress appropriately in old clothes, covered toe shoes and your swimming togs underneath your clothing in case you encounter water.

Do not race with electronic devices including keys. These may get wet.

TIMING TRANSPONDERS

TRANSPONDERS (Timing Chips)
When you arrive at the race venue, you must locate the Transponder Pick Up table. This is where you will receive your timing chip. It looks like a small credit card with four holes punched in it.

Both parent and child must wear their own individual transponder. It must be worn on the shoe and nowhere else. Failure to correctly wear your transponder will result in your team not being recorded a time. Teams without shoelaces - we can provide you with small zip ties.

SHOES ON AT THE FINISH
This is critical. Shoes must be on as you cross the finish line otherwise your team's time crossing the finish line may not be recorded.


COMPULSORY CHALLENGES

Compulsory challenges are challenges that we tell you about ahead of your race. This allows teams to learn new skills and have fun together prior to your race day.

BADDIES

Inside the start house, your team will get a BADDIE CARD. A baddie is someone who is out to catch your team and will mark you for a time penalty - to be served later on the course. Baddie's play by the rules and so will you. Here is how you can defeat the baddies.

  1. If you see a baddie, all you have to do is hold hands with your teammate and they cannot catch or stop your team. Simple as that.
  2. You can tell if someone is a baddie - they will be wearing a mask covering part of the face. This is the only identifying item to signify they are a baddie.
  3. Baddies are out to catch teams that separate, where one team member takes off and leaves the other behind.
  4. Baddies are tricky - they are baddies after all. They will be wearing normal clothing, perhaps dressed as a jogger or just out for a walk. 
  5. A baddie will never be located at a challenge point.
  6. To catch you, all a baddie has to do is to touch one of your team on the shoulder and will mark you as caught. 

YOU DON'T HAVE TO HOLD HANDS THE WHOLE WAY AROUND - JUST STAY CLOSE BY EACH OTHER AND YOU WILL DEFEAT THE BADDIES.

 


MERCHANDISE

We are holding a sale of merchandise on race day PRIOR to the event starting. Please note, we will not have any EFTPOS facilities, cash only.

WE LOVE OUR PLANET

At the finish line, we will have large water containers for you to refill your drink bottles. But, unlike other events we do not provide paper cups.

We are trying to set the standard in reducing our event waste footprint.

There are no rubbish bins onsite. Please take all waste away and dispose with consideration – thanks for this!
(TIP: use your race pack bag as a rubbish bag).

WAVE TIMES

We start between 10 and 30 teams every 60 seconds – this is called a wave. Each XRACE uses wave starts to help us reduce congestion when you arrive at challenges.

EXAMPLE: if the race starts at 9:00 A.M and your team is wave 12 your start time will be 9:12 A.M. Collect your transponders in the registration area, tie them on your shoes, then make your way to the start line in time for your wave start time. The announcer will call up waves by number into the start house where you will be joined by other teams in your wave.

There will be a large clock at the start line that will show official race time. The race clocks are considered to be official time and will be set to run at the same time as shown on your phone.

IMPORTANT

  • Leaving the start house before your departure time = no recorded time
  • Leaving the start house at your allocated time = recorded time
  • Leaving the start house after your allocated time = recorded time

On the Wednesday of your race week, wave starts will be posted below this paragraph. We suggest you write your wave start time on your hand so you don’t forget it.
